The Smiths played The Free Trade Hall twice: 03/13/84 promoting their first album, and also on 10/30/86
promoting the Ask single.
It was here that Morrissey attended The Sex Pistols first gig (outside of London) on 06/04/76. Also attending
were Bernard Summer, Peter Hook, and Ian Curtis (all of whom later formed Joy Division), Mark E. Smith of The Fall, and Tony
Wilson, founder of Factory Records. Morrissey's friend Linder Sterling was also there; she formed the band Ludus and
later became a photographer who compiled the book Morrissey Shot.
